Comment va la digestion de ton chien ? Il vomit ? Il a les selles molles?

How is your dog's digestion? Are they vomiting? Do they have loose stools?

Arriving at the pet store, you're overwhelmed by the sheer number of dog food options. Your neighbour recommends one brand; your friend prefers another. Faced with all these choices, you're perplexed. On Facebook, you join groups dedicated to dog nutrition, but opinions vary widely. You want the best for your dog, you know that nutrition plays a crucial role in their health, and you're anxious about making the wrong decision and making them sick. We've all faced this dilemma when it comes to choosing the best food for our dogs.

In this article, I'm going to share a simple method to determine if the food you're giving your dog is the best for their digestive health. I'm not going to talk about specific brands or ingredients but rather show you how to observe three key signs related to their digestion.

The impact of diet on digestion

Diet has a direct impact on our dog's health and digestion. A healthy digestive system is essential for our dog to be happy and fit. Digestive issues can lead to vomiting, loose stools, or diarrhea, which can cause stress for both the dog and its owner. These digestive issues can be caused by certain foods, particularly those high in sugar, which can irritate the stomach and intestines.

Signs to watch for

Without further ado, here are the 3 signs you should look for in your dog to know if its diet is suitable for it:

1. Does your dog vomit more than once a month?

It's normal for a dog to vomit occasionally, especially if it has ingested something unusual. However, if your dog vomits more than once a month on a regular basis, it could indicate stomach irritation. It's essential to act quickly to prevent this problem from worsening and disrupting your pet's long-term health.

    2. Does your dog have loose stools or diarrhea more than once a month?

Stools are a good indicator of digestion. If your dog frequently has loose stools or suffers from diarrhea more than once a month, this isn’t normal. It's important to examine their diet, as this could be the cause of the problem. Keep in mind that some people think this is normal when it isn't.

    3. Does your dog experience reflux or acid reflux more than once a month?

Reflux or acid reflux is sometimes overlooked, but it can be a sign of an irritated stomach. Your dog may experience these symptoms a few minutes after meals or even at night. If this happens more than once a month, it could be a problem and related to their diet.

Act quickly for your dog's health

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it's essential to consult your veterinarian and carefully examine your dog's diet. Digestive issues shouldn't be ignored, as the longer they persist, the harder they become to resolve. My goal is to equip you with the knowledge about nutrition so you can independently observe your dog and quickly identify any potential issues.
